Introduction to the Planets

planet neptune in space with blue haze and fog

Planets in the birth chart have more or less synergy with certain houses and  signs, than others. Each planet can be in domicile, exaltation, detriment and fall depending on what sign they are in. There are also houses that are more beneficial to some planets than others. The personal planets are Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars and Saturn.

Uranus, Pluto and Neptune are important both on a personal level and also on a generational level. Aspects made between planets and luminaries - Sun and Moon - reveal the dominant patterns in the chart.

However, as ever, a chart is read as a whole. One detrimental placement or one exalted planet does not tell us the whole story.

In general, the malefics  (Sun, Mars, Saturn) work well in tough houses that they havegreater synergy with. The benefics (Moon, Venus, Jupiter) will tend to have positive results in more harmonious, benefic houses. There are some houses that tend to benefit all the planets reasonably well. When a planet has synergy with a sign and house, there can be expected to be positive results, otherwise known as essential dignity.
